Understanding Your Coverage and Payment Options

We believe cost should never be a barrier to excellent dental care. Learn how dental insurance works, how we handle claims, and the flexible payment options we offer.

How Insurance Works

Understanding Your Dental Insurance

Most dental insurance is provided through your employer, and your benefits depend on the plan your employer chooses. Unlike medical insurance, which covers major health expenses, dental insurance was originally designed to help with preventive and routine dental care. As a result, coverage limits and benefits have changed very little over the years.

Least Expensive Alternative Treatment (LEAT)

Many dental plans use rules such as Least Expensive Alternative Treatment (LEAT), which may only cover the lowest-cost treatment option, even if another treatment is more suitable. This means insurance companies can influence the type of care that is covered.

The Freedom of Direct Payment

Patients who pay directly for treatment are not limited by insurance fee schedules, allowing dentists to recommend the most appropriate treatment and provide more personalized care.

Annual Maximum Benefits

Most dental plans have an annual maximum benefit of $1,000–$1,500. After preventive care, exams, and X-rays, little coverage may remain for treatments like crowns, root canals, or other major procedures, leaving patients responsible for the remaining costs.

Why Knowing Your Plan Matters

Since every dental plan is different, we recommend contacting your employer or insurance provider to verify your coverage, reimbursement rates, and request an Explanation of Benefits (EOB).

Understanding Your Coverage

An Out-of-Network Provider That Works With You

Yorktowne Dental Group is an out-of-network provider. We accept most PPO dental plans that allow you to choose your own dentist and will gladly submit insurance claims on your behalf.

Claims Submitted For You

We handle the paperwork and file your insurance claims on your behalf, so you don't have to worry about the details.

Understanding Your Coverage
Payment & Reimbursement

Flexible Payment Options

Payment is due at the time of your visit unless prior arrangements have been made. After we submit your claim, your insurance company will send any reimbursement directly to you.

Accepted Payments

We accept all major credit cards, personal checks, and cash, including patient financing options such as Cherry or Care Credit.

Payment Arrangements

Many of our patients choose to pay directly for their dental care instead of using insurance. We also offer flexible payment arrangements to help make quality dental care affordable.

Verify Your Coverage

Contact your employer or insurance provider to verify your coverage, reimbursement rates, and request an Explanation of Benefits (EOB).
