What Are Dental Implants?
A dental implant is a metal post that replaces the root portion of a missing tooth. It can be used to replace one or several missing teeth. Here at Yorktowne Dental Group, our expert dentists will attach a tooth to implant that looks very natural and will last you for many years or even lifetime.

What Does Getting Dental Implants Involve?
Consultation & Planning
X-rays and impressions are taken to determine bone structure, gum tissue, and spacing available for implants.
Implant Placement Surgery
The implant is surgically placed into the jawbone and allowed to heal.
Healing & Osseointegration
The implant gradually fuses with the jawbone to create a strong foundation.
Final Restoration
Custom artificial teeth are created and attached to the implant.
Implant Crown vs Implant Supported Bridge
Implant Crown
A single missing tooth replaced by single implant and a tooth attached to that implant.
Implant Supported Bridge
When you have multiple missing teeth, 2 dental implants are used to restore 3 or more missing teeth.
Caring for Your New Implant
- You will receive care instructions when treatment is completed. Good oral hygiene, healthy eating habits, and regular dental visits help extend the life of your implant.
- With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime and provide a reliable solution for tooth replacement.
Aftercare Tips
- Brush & Floss Daily – Clean your implant like natural teeth.
- Regular Checkups – Visit your dentist every six months.
- Healthy Habits – Avoid chewing hard objects and maintain a balanced diet.
Daily Long-Term Care
- Once your permanent bridge is placed, plaque and bacteria can still gather underneath it, causing a localized gum disease called peri-implantitis.
- Clean your bridge twice daily using these steps: Water flossing: Use a water flosser on a low-to-medium setting. Direct the tip underneath the bridge to flush out trapped food particles and plaque.
- Specialized flossing: Thread implant floss (thick yarn-like floss) or a proxy brush under the prosthetic and slide it side-to-side around each titanium post.
- Brushing: Clean the prosthetic teeth and your gum line using a soft-bristled manual brush or an electric toothbrush with a non-abrasive gel toothpaste.
